A paradise beach drawn

While preparing our different trips and talking (a lot), we quickly agreed on several points: We take part as little as possible in overtourism, we take our time, and we educate ourselves about local life and culture. No flying every week, no cities visited in an afternoon, no countries barely crossed just to take photos at Instagrammable spots.

So we researched, read, watched and listened, and slow travel or slow tourism (slow travel or slow tourism) emerged as a good starting solution for more responsible travel and sustainable tourism.

Concretely, here are the actions we have put in place:

  • Buying as much eco-friendly equipment as possible

  • When possible, buying second-hand equipment, borrowing, etc..

  • Travel from France → Brazil by boat rather than by plane

We are not perfect, but we try, educate ourselves, and commit.

The starting point

Why do we travel?

To understand, to feel, to live gently. A project that grew from these desires: to spend a year in South America.

It was a goal, but above all the beginning of a project bigger than us.

The families of Tristan and Mathilde meet before the trip to South America.

And now…
the road continues

We move forward without knowing exactly where we will be in a month.
That’s our project: to explore, document, meet people.
To build a living story, one step at a time.

We prepared ourselves with our knowledge and research, created maps of the places and routes we wanted to explore, gathered information, and packed our bags.

Save up to go far away

The crossing that changes everything

We could have taken the plane… but we preferred to cross the Atlantic by boat.
Three weeks away from the world, watching the ocean go by, letting our daily rhythms slowly change.

An abandoned boat at the border between Brazil and Argentina at Iguazu
Mathilde strolling in Baco de Batman in Brazil, a very colorful street of graffiti.

We discover Brazil by moving slowly.
Nothing is urgent. We learn the rhythm, we listen to the locals, we adapt, we tell ourselves every day that we made the right choice to leave.

First steps,
first questions

The sweetness of the journey

Between two cities, we stop for a month to work on a farm.
Learning, planting, observing, understanding the land: a reminder that travel is not just a journey, but also a way of learning.

Tristan

Nice to meet you! My name is Tristan, I’m 26 years old, and this blog reflects a project: a one-year journey in South America.
Not to escape, nor to « leave everything behind », but to go and meet what I don’t yet know.

I’ve always been curious about many things, never quite managing to choose a single path. Travel seemed to me like a way to bring my desires together: discovering, understanding, meeting people. I was lucky enough to go away once, alone in South Asia for three months. It was neither a challenge nor a feat, but a meaningful experience that changed my view of the world. I’m one of those who learn by walking, by observing, by living. Traveling with a backpack is, for me, a simple and sincere way to listen to what surrounds us.

I have no great lessons to offer, only the desire to discover without disturbing, to see without imposing myself, and, if the opportunity arises, to contribute with respect for those who welcome me.
This blog is a travel journal, a record of what I experience, and perhaps an invitation for others to take the time to look differently

Mathilde

My name is Mathilde. I am 24 years old, and for me, traveling the world means making a dream come true. The dream of a little girl who had never left her native country but who grew up reading adventure tales and watching cartoons that told the stories of different cultures around the world.

So, when I started higher education, I made myself a promise: once my studies were over, I would leave! I would step out of my imaginary world to travel the real world.

My first step toward backpacking was my participation in the Redbull challenge - Can you make it? : 7 days, without money, without my phone, in teams of 3, we had to leave Budapest to arrive in Berlin while completing challenges and passing through checkpoints.
This short but intense adventure fed my desire to travel and adventure.
