Overall health is important, but when you travel far from home, it's even more so!
Before any long trip, it is recommended to always consult:
General practitioner
Gynecologist
Dentist
Ophthalmologist
And any other specialist for specific medical follow-ups
If anything is detected, modified, or done, it is better that it happens before you leave! - especially for travel insurance.
Getting information about vaccines when preparing for a trip is also a priority and essential step! Indeed, some vaccines need to be planned in advance or given in multiple doses, and you may experience delays before getting an appointment at certain medical centers. So to avoid stress, we recommend that you seek information as early as possible. Especially since their duration of action is very long, between 10 years to a lifetime.
When we had to get vaccinated for travels (Asia and South America), here are where we went:
International vaccination center of the Pasteur Institute: https://www.pasteur.fr/fr/centre-medical/vaccination
International vaccination center of Saint Louis Hospital: https://vaccin-voyage-ghparis10.aphp.fr/
You may also be prescribed medication against malaria depending on your destination.
These appointments can be made without a recommendation or prescription from your primary care physician, but we recommend that you consult your doctor before your trip. They can give you advice, prescribe medications suited to you and your destination, and follow up with you upon your return.
During these appointments, we met a doctor specialized in travel medicine, who took stock of our vaccines and prescribed supplies to create a first aid kit (insect bites, digestive troubles, first aid, burns, water purifiers, etc.).
To complete these few tips, we invite you to take notice of the following articles and sheets:

Travel Insurance
In our eyes, it is essential and we will explain why.
Unless you can afford it, traveling without insurance is taking the risk of astronomical costs in case of unforeseen events: hospitalization abroad, a visit to the doctor, cancellation, loss of luggage, or repatriation can quickly become very expensive.
A good insurance offers security, assistance, and peace of mind.
If you are a European citizen and staying in the European Union:
At least 15 days before your departure, obtain the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). It will allow you to prove your entitlements to health insurance and to benefit from on-site coverage of your medical care, according to the legislation and formalities in force in the host country. Only necessary care that becomes urgent or unexpected during your stay can be covered by the EHIC.
If you are traveling outside the European Union, you will need travel insurance.
Some banks and home insurance providers offer it directly in their contracts, do not hesitate to ask them.
Travel insurance is not just for health but also for transport, accommodation, losses, and theft, etc. To learn everything about how to choose your travel insurance, you can read our article on the subject:
