Our travel guides to France
Why include France on a travel blog run by French locals? Because our own country is packed with hidden gems we too often forget to explore. Plus, traveling around France without flying fits perfectly with our sustainable travel approach.
France boasts one of the most extensive rail networks in Europe, and the regional TER trains are a fantastic, budget-friendly way to discover jaw-dropping regions. From the stunning calanques de Marseille to the dramatic cliffs of Étretat, the hilltop villages of the Luberon to the volcanic peaks of Auvergne, and the wild beaches of Bretagne to the vibrant markets of the Pays Basque, every single region is an adventure in itself.

About our Travel Guides
On a budget? France can get pricey during high season and in tourist hotspots (like the French Riviera or Paris). But don't worry, there are hundreds of budget-friendly alternatives. Camping is a huge part of the local culture here, with thousands of great campsites dotted all over the country. The GR (long-distance hiking trails) offer some incredible trekking adventures right at your doorstep: think the GR20 in Corsica, the GR10 in the Pyrenees, or the tour of Mont-Blanc. Plan on spending about 30 to 45 euros par jour pour deux if you are camping and cooking with local ingredients.
For a quick getaway, cities like Lyon, Bordeaux, Strasbourg, Toulouse, or Nantes offer a wealth of culture and amazing food, and they are easily reachable by train from most major French cities.
The best time to visit really depends on where you're heading: summer is perfect for Brittany and the north, spring and autumn are ideal for the south, and winter is the time to go for the Alps and the Pyrenees.
