Mirror of the Atlantic sun thanks to its galleries, gateway to Santiago de Compostela, bearer of a history of over two thousand years, the city of A Coruña (La Corogne) is a true gem to explore.
Here is what we recommend doing there in one day:
Seaside Walk: The Paseo Marítimo in La Coruña, 13 km long, offers you the opportunity for a long walk to discover the different architectures that have settled in the city over time. Be sure not to miss passing in front of the "galleries"—these building facades, designed in the 19th century. They have given the city many nicknames and function like natural solar greenhouses that capture heat during the day.
Hercules Tower: The Tower of Hercules is the only Roman lighthouse and the oldest functioning lighthouse in the world. Legend has it that the mythical hero Hercules, arriving here by boat, buried the head of a giant he had defeated in battle. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since June 27, 2009.
Tickets for the Tower of Hercules are available on-site or online at the official lighthouse website. The admission fee is €3, and the reduced fee is €1.50.
Admission is free on Mondays, but a ticket is still required.
Opening hours are from 9:45 AM to 5 PM in autumn and winter, and from 10 AM to 9 PM.
Fun fact: This tower is twinned with the Statue of Liberty in New York and the El Morro lighthouse in Havana.

Walk through the Old Town: Composed of a maze of small medieval streets, the old town of La Coruña is a labyrinth surrounded by ancient walls within which you can catch a glimpse of a certain Breton influence. Indeed, the history of Breton fishermen is closely linked to this city through which they passed for their activities.
The exit of this maze is the María Pita square, where you will find the majestic town hall and the statue of María Pita, who led the city's resistance against the attack of the English fleet in 1589.
Modern Art Museum: The building was constructed on the ruins of the 18th-century Capuchin Convent. It has a collection of over 5,000 works tracing the artistic evolution from the 15th century to the present day.
Entrance tickets are at €2.40 with reduced rates available at €1.40 or free depending on eligibility. Visiting hours are from Tuesday to Friday from 10am to 8pm, Saturday from 10am to 2pm and from 4:30pm to 8pm.
Address where we ate: El Ricón de Alba - https://maps.app.goo.gl/raevNSjVLu6pfvRP6
Excellent tapas bar with a fusion cuisine between Asia, Spain, and Latin America.
This little tour allows you to pass through the most pleasant areas of the city and to catch a glimpse of its beauty for a day, of course, if you are curious and wish to inquire more in advance, here is a map that lists all the interesting areas of the city!
