Discover the best places in La Coruña in a day!

Sun mirror of the Atlantic thanks to its galleries, entry point of Santiago de Compostela and bearer of a history of more than two thousand years, the city of A Coruña (La Corogne) is a real gem to explore.

Here is what we recommend you do in one day:

The Paseo Marítimo de La Coruña, stretching 13km, offers you the possibility of a long walk to discover the different architectures that have established themselves in the city over time. Don't miss passing by the "galleries", these building facades, designed in the 19th century. They have given the city many nicknames and function as natural solar greenhouses that capture heat during the day.

The Tower of Hercules

The Tower of Hercules is the only Roman lighthouse and the oldest functioning lighthouse in the world. The legend says that the mythical hero Hercules, who arrived here by boat, buried the head of a giant he had defeated in battle. It has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since June 27, 2009.

Admission tickets for the Tower of Hercules are available on-site or online on the official lighthouse website. The entry fee is €3 and the reduced rate is €1.50.

Admission is free on Mondays, but a ticket is still required.

Opening hours are from 9:45 AM to 5 PM in autumn and winter, and from 10 AM to 9 PM.

Fun fact: This tower is twinned with the Statue of Liberty in New York and with the El Morro lighthouse in Havana.

A stroll through the old town

Composed of a maze of small medieval streets, the old town of La Coruña is a labyrinth surrounded by ancient walls, within which you can glimpse a certain Breton influence. Indeed, the history of Breton fishermen is closely linked to this city through which they passed for their activities.

The exit of this labyrinth is the María Pita square, where you will find the majestic town hall and the statue of María Pita, who led the city's resistance against the attack of the English fleet in 1589.

Modern Art Museum

The building was constructed on the ruins of the 18th-century Capuchin Convent. It has a collection of more than 5,000 works tracing the artistic evolution from the 15th century to the present day.

Entry tickets are €2.40 with reduced rates available at €1.40 or free entry depending on eligibility. Visiting hours are from Tuesday to Friday from 10 am to 8 pm, Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm and from 4:30 pm to 8 pm.
