Our travel guides for Germany
Traveling in Germany offers so much more than just the clichés of beer and sausages. From vibrant Berlin, the capital of European counter-culture, to the fairytale castles of Bavière (with Neuschwanstein leading the way), through the vineyards of the vallée du Rhin and the deep woodlands of the Forêt-Noire, Germany is a country that constantly surprises you with its diversity and rich culture.
For backpackers, Germany is an ideal playground thanks to its exceptional transport network. The Deutschland-Ticket (49 euros per month for unlimited travel on all regional transport) is a real lifesaver for exploring the country car-free and eco-friendly, while still soaking in the views. Regional trains, trams, city buses: it's all included. It's exactly the kind of slow, savvy travel we love to recommend.

About our Travel Guides
Budget-wise, Germany is actually much more affordable than you might think, especially outside of Munich and the touristy Bavarian spots. You can easily get by on about 35 to 50 euros per day for two people if you stay in youth hostels (the DJH youth hostel network is one of the best in the world), grab bites at local Imbiss (street food stands), and travel with the Deutschland-Ticket.
Fun fact: Buying a beer in a Biergarten is often cheaper than ordering a coffee in Paris.
Mid-sized cities like Dresden, Leipzig, Hamburg, or Freiburg offer a fantastic balance of rich culture and budget-friendly prices. Don't make the mistake of sticking only to Berlin and Munich.
The best time to visit Germany is from May to September. That said, if you don't mind wrapping up warm, the Christmas market season (late November through December) is an absolutely magical time to experience the country.
