Mendoza was built around a paradox. At first glance, the region is dry, almost arid. However, thanks to an ingenious irrigation system inherited from pre-Columbian peoples and developed over the centuries, this land has become one of the largest wine-growing territories in South America.
Located at the foot of the Andes, Mendoza has established itself as a crossroads between nature, gastronomy, and culture. Today, its tourist appeal is based on this balance between vineyards, hot springs, mountains, and a pleasant city to live in.
We arrived in Mendoza with a plan in mind, but as often happens when traveling, we adjusted it on the spot. And that’s also what made the experience smoother.
Which inn to discover Mendoza?
We dropped off our bags at the Dale Hostel, a friendly hostel with a true communal vibe. It’s the type of place where you can easily meet other travelers, and the team regularly organizes activities like pizza nights, barbecues, or city outings. The big plus is the support: advice, good plans, recommendations tailored to your budget and timing.
The cleaning is done regularly, which is appreciated when traveling for a long time, and the atmosphere allows for flexibility in your schedule.

What to do in Mendoza?
Discover the vineyards of the region
Visiting the vineyards is the main activity in Mendoza. Several options are available to you, depending on your way of traveling.
By bike, it's the most common option, but it often limits the visit to two or three estates if you want to taste quietly. By car, it is possible to go directly to certain wineries and join tasting groups on-site, provided you organize in advance.
On our side, we chose to go with a local guide. This allowed us to discover places that are a bit less touristy and to vary our pleasures. The day combined wine tasting, discovering artisanal gin, local olive oil, and chocolate. A more comprehensive approach that gives a real insight into the skills of the region.
A Day at the Cacheuta Thermal Baths
The Termas de Cacheuta are located about an hour's drive from Mendoza. The journey already allows you to feel the change of scenery, with the mountains gradually getting closer.
On site, the atmosphere is very local. You can see families, groups of friends, often gathered around an improvised asado. The ideal is to bring your picnic and plan the whole day to enjoy the pools and relax.
It is also possible to combine this day with rafting through an external agency or by using the packages offered by the official site of the baths.
Take the time to live Mendoza
Between two excursions, Mendoza is well-suited for strolling. The city center is pleasant, with wide tree-lined avenues that mitigate the heat. There are several lively squares, accessible museums, and numerous cafés for taking a break without a specific goal.
It is a city that is easy to experience, especially after more demanding stages of the trip.
