Congratulations, the end of the world (the tip of the world), you did it, you are there! Although impressive in its geographical location, we did not find the city itself very beautiful; other towns and villages in Patagonia seemed more beautiful to us. But anyway, one does not come to Ushuaia for the architecture, because here, there is so much to discover that does not disappoint: nature, history, and activities.
Ushuaia may not be the most beautiful city in Patagonia. But it offers some of the most unique experiences on the continent. Hiking, glaciers, sea, wildlife, history, and spectacular landscapes.

Tierra del Fuego National Park
Tierra del Fuego National Park
It is a place, like many in Patagonia, that offers a feeling of wild and even untouched nature. Here, the last mountains of the Andes meet the sea at the end of the world.
Although very popular, Tierra del Fuego National Park is large enough (630 km²) to easily find a quiet spot.
It is full of hiking trails of all levels, whether you want a challenging ascent to see the world from above, admire a lake, or simply take a walk on a beach along the water, Tierra del Fuego National Park surely has a trail for you.
To get there, a shuttle is located here https://maps.app.goo.gl/VzMoES3DUrHQF19m8 it’s a private shuttle service, a bit more convenient than a taxi which cannot enter the park to drop you off. You can also take the train from the end of the world!
A steam train style train that runs along the southernmost railway line in the world, designed in the early 1900s and put back into service in '94.
It’s the most original way to get there, to book your train tickets you can go to this site: https://www.trendelfindelmundo.com.ar/
Emerald Lagoon
One of the most popular hikes in Ushuaia, and when you see the Lagoon, you understand why!
The hiking trail is not directly in the city, you will need to take a car or a shuttle. The shuttle is located here https://maps.app.goo.gl/VzMoES3DUrHQF19m8 it is a private shuttle service, the only one that serves the lagoon. It cost us 36K$ ARS for two, which is 10€ per person, for a round trip (January 2026).
The path to reach Laguna Esmeralda is beautiful, where you can admire forests, plains, mountains, and even the impressive work of beavers! It climbs a bit but remains accessible to all levels. Also, be sure to wear the right shoes as there is often mud on the path!
Bonus :
For the bravest, there is another hidden beauty above Laguna Esmeralda which, besides being sublime, offers you a high view of Laguna Esmeralda. This is the Ojo del Albino Glacier. Be careful, the path, which is on the other side of the lagoon, is very steep; it is not simple and accessible to everyone like the lagoon.

Admire the shipwreck - St Christopher
While strolling along the dock and waterfront of Ushuaia, you can admire a shipwreck, and not just any ship! The St Christopher is an American salvage tug that participated in the landing in 1944. In 1947, it was sold to Argentina, and in 1957, it was abandoned and deliberately run aground on the coast due to engine problems and the failure of a towing operation.
Today, it is part of the city's scenery, and it can be found on many souvenir items.
Skiing at Cerro Castor
Like many things in Ushuaia, Cerro Castor is the southernmost ski resort in the world. With its 28 slopes, it is ideal for a short or long stay, and it is well-known for having excellent teaching. The best time to enjoy it is from June to the end of September!
Discover the city's museums
The Museum at the End of the World
You will find permanent and temporary exhibitions divided into two locations. One is Casa Banco Nación (at 173 Maipú Avenue) and the other is the Casa de Gobierno (at 465 Maipú Avenue). This is the place to discover the historical archives of Tierra del Fuego.
The Maritime and Penitentiary Museum
Maritime Museum and Presidio of Ushuaia
Located in an old prison within this museum, the focus is on the history of this city and its prisoners, who had to build structures for both the prison and the city. You will also discover the stories of famous criminals and daily life in each of the cells.
An outing to see the penguins, or at least what looks like them!
We participated in a ride on the Beagle Canal with Pinguinos Expediciones on GetYourGuide, ( TIPS : if you book last minute - two to four days in advance, you may get discounts as you fill the last spots!)
The boat takes you to see the last lighthouse before the end of the world : The Lighthouse of the Eclaireurs, an island with colonies of Razorbills, birds that resemble penguins. Another one with sea lions and finally you land on the Isla del Tierra del Fuego before returning to the port of Ushuaia.
Throughout the trip, a guide narrates the history of the indigenous peoples, and tells you about the local fauna and flora. The tour is really nice when the weather permits and it lasts 2h30, enough to occupy your morning!
Find souvenirs at the Artisan Fair
What better way to end your stay than to bring back some handmade souvenirs? In addition to finding beautiful items, you will help finance local artisans, rather than factories on the other side of the world. You will find paintings, original drawings, wool clothing, personalized notebooks, magnets, decorative objects, jewelry, etc.
