How do I get to Isla del Sol from Copacabana?

How do you get to Isla del Sol from Copacabana? It couldn’t be simpler! We explain everything in this short practical guide.

Point de vente

First point, be aware that when you arrive in Copacabana, dozens of people, agencies, and street vendors will approach you and offer to sell you tickets to go to the island, but beware, these tickets are very often much more expensive! Indeed, the official ticket office is at the port, at the end of the main avenue, so you will inevitably have to pass by plenty of agencies that will take advantage of their location to approach you.

Achat des billets

Once at the ticket office, you can buy tickets (between 20 and 50 bolivianos per person for a one-way ticket depending on the season) for the same day or at most the next day. It is not possible to buy tickets several days in advance (indeed, in the event of unfavorable weather, you would not be able to board the boat, exchange your ticket, or get a refund, so it's better not to buy too far in advance, just to be sure you'll be able to leave).

Sometimes tickets for the next day are only sold in the evening, so don't be surprised if you're asked to come back later; that's normal and it's a real sign of seriousness (unlike some agencies that will sell you tickets at any time).

You will have the choice between a round trip for the same day or a one-way ticket. If you want to return later, you can buy your return ticket directly on the island (for the same reasons mentioned above, it is not possible to buy a ticket in advance).

Horaires de départ

Please note that depending on the time of year, the schedules change but are generally structured like this: 2 departures in the morning and 1 to 2 departures in the afternoon.

La traversée

That's it, you have your tickets in hand, you're about to board! The crossing will take 1h20 to 1h40, if you have the chance we highly recommend choosing a seat on the boat's roof, it's so pleasant, the water and the scenery are so beautiful.

Once you arrive at the port of Isla del Sol, a small fee of 15 bolivianos will be requested from you.

And there you have it, all that's left is to climb the legendary Inca steps and enjoy the magical and magnificent Isla del Sol.
